Sophie Wins Writing Competition

Sophie Piggott All Year 6 pupils at Stamford Junior School, along with children from across the county, entered the Stamford Arts Centre’s writing competition with the theme ‘Something Wonderful.’

Junior School pupil, Sophie Piggott Y6, not only won the top prize in the 8 to 12 year old category, but also the Best Local story, with her tale about the pressures of a gymnast’s rise to stardom. Frances Brody, well-known author of the Kate Shackleton mysteries, presented Sophie with her prizes at the presentation evening.

Sophie’s story has been published in Stamford Living Magazine and she has recently recorded it at Rutland Radio.

Class teacher Matthew Sutterby commented; “It is so well-deserved to someone whose writing in all genres is always so engaging and of such a high standard”.
