SJS Host the Lincolnshire Festival of Chess
Twelve children from Stamford Junior School were joined by 52 more from across Lincolnshire to compete for individual titles of chess champion at Stamford Junior School last Saturday. The children played 6 rounds of chess throughout the day, with the Junior School pupils scoring very well.
There were notable performances from the following: Joseph Saunders was the Y4 overall champion, Nikhil Gandamaneni was the Y6 runner-up and Edward Hall Y4 runner up. Medals were also won for strong performances by Lottie Pike (Y5), Jamie Nel and Asa Monahan (both Y4). Several children will be called up to play for Lincolnshire County.
Mrs Helen Britton, who leads chess at SJS along with Mrs Alison Crow, said: “It was pleasing to see 64 children enjoying their day of chess here at the Junior School. Many of our visitors commented on how welcoming the pupils and staff were, and they certainly enjoyed the bacon butties half way through the day!”
