MEP Talks to Sixth Formers
As part of the Y13 lecture programme Member of the European Parliament, Emma McClarkin, spoke to the whole year group.
Miss McLarkin is the youngest British MEP. She explained the nature of her role which involves the creation of legislation as diverse as intellectual property rights to the font size on a packet of chewing gum. As a committed Eurosceptic, Miss McClarkin believes that the power of the EU is too great and she would support a referendum to return more power to the UK parliament. Questions were answered on issues such as the horsemeat crisis, the number of women in politics and the power of the European Commissioner.
Head of Politics at the Stamford Endowed Schools, Victoria Saunders, said: “The lecture brought a complex and vitally important topic to life.”
