Year 7's Compete in French Spelling Bee
Four Year 7s from Stamford School competed in the regional finals of the French Spelling Bee at Corby Business Academy last week. The competition is open to all Y7 pupils who have started French as a new subject this academic year. All the Stamford School Year 7’s started the process in September and the best four were then selected to represent their school after several rounds of competing.
During the first round the Year 7s competed against members of their form. They had one minute to correctly translate English words, from a 50 word list, into French with perfect pronunciation and then spell the given words using the French alphabet. The chosen candidates then had to compete against boys from other forms from a list of 100 words.
The top four students; Jakob Galer-Rose, Alessio Rosetti, Finn Corbett and Thomas Van Dongen were selected to represent Stamford School at Corby Business Academy. Finn Corbett came 3rd overall, gaining a place in the National Finals which take place at the Anglia Ruskin University in July.
