Year 11 enjoy an afternoon of European Politics
As part of their citizenship education, the Year 11’s at Stamford High School were visited by Bill Newton-Dunn, Liberal Democrat MEP for the East Midlands. Mr Newton-Dunn spent the afternoon educating and informing the students about the role of the European Union and the work of an MEP.
The afternoon began with an introductory talk from Mr Newton-Dunn, then the girls did some research which was followed by a question and answer session. His approach was informative rather than party political – a couple of High School staff could not identify which party he was a member of.
Liz Salt, History Teacher at Stamford High School, said: “The afternoon gave the girls a wonderful insight into the work of an MEP and helped them understand a lot more about what they are trying to do. It was both enjoyable and informative.”
