Gymnasts Become National Champions

Three Stamford Endowed Schools’ teams qualified for the prestigious British Schools Floor and Vault National Finals; the U11 Girls, U14 Girls and U11 Mixed. The standard was extremely impressive and this year saw the best performances to date.

The U11 girls’ team (made up of U10 and U9 gymnasts) performed well and gained valuable experience finishing in 12th place. The U14 girls looked impressive with some very high scores being posted and were unlucky to finish just outside the medals in 4th place.

However, the weekend belonged to the SES U11 Mixed team (Lawrence Hayes, Alexander Hayes, Daniel Smith, Lottie Davies and Isabella Plant). They performed with confidence and determination in the hope that they might just gain a medal. They completely surpassed expectations and it was a surprise to everyone when they were announced in 1st place, winning gold medals and a cup and earning the title of U11 Mixed Floor and Vault National Champions 2013.

Trudy Smith, Gymnastics Coach, said: “This is the first for SES gymnasts. I am extremely proud of the team and I’m delighted that they were rewarded for all of their hard work.”
