Sixth Formers Spend the Day as Sculptors
Internationally renowned sculptor, Theodore Gillick, kindly offered to run a day long sculpture workshop for Stamford Endowed Schools’ sixth form. Ten art students from Year 12 attended this workshop, which took place in Mr Gillick’s studio which is a massive agricultural warehouse. All of the pupils produced an impressive relief sculpture using terracotta clay. Not only did the pupils learn a new sculpture technique, they also heard what it was like to be a working artist as Mr Gillick explained how he made plaster models of his sculptures to show to his clients, before going to the expanse of casting them in bronze.
