Teen Fiction Author Cathy Cassidy Visits SHS
Y6 – 8 girls from the Stamford Endowed Schools enjoyed a visit from the popular teen fiction author Cathy Cassidy, on the eagerly anticipated launch day of her new book ‘Coco Caramel’, the latest instalment of ‘The Chocolate Box Girls’ series.
Cathy Cassidy inspired the students as she reflected on her career path from writing as a teenager to becoming an international author. She spoke about sending hundreds of short stories to magazines, becoming the agony aunt for Shout magazine and then finally having her first books published. Cathy has now written more than 20 books and has teenage fans all over the world.
Cathy enlightened the girls as she explained her literary techniques, from character profiling to the art of daydreaming and how she writes her books in a shepherd’s hut at the bottom of her garden!
Stamford High School Librarian, Amanda Virgo, said: ““For many of the younger girls this was their first opportunity to meet the author of their favourite stories and they were very excited. I think all the students were encouraged to hear that success can come through hard work and perseverance, not just good exam results.”
