Night Sail Raises Funds for RNLI
Students from SES, Oakham and Uppingham Schools took part in a charity night sail at Rutland Water last weekend (15th – 16th June) to raise funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). Last year, the RNLI rescued 7,912 people and as the charity is run by volunteers they are completely dependent on funds from the public.
The sailors of Stamford, Oakham and Uppingham Schools, along with Rutland Sailing Club were challenged to transport 660 people around a 1 mile course on Rutland Water throughout the night of 15 June, all in aid of the RNLI.
Each School sailed the course using Stamford School’s Wanderer dinghies which carried up to 4 people, and the number of people transported each lap was counted until each School managed to transport 330 people. Stamford managed to beat Oakham by 20 laps and consequentially won!
