Y8’s Get Into Character for Shakespeare Workshop
Having studied Shakespeare's 'Much Ado About Nothing', a group of Y8’s from Stamford High School were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to take part in a Shakespeare workshop. Mrs Richardson is currently researching Shakespeare in Education, and wanted to explore some of the RSC's suggestions for delivering Shakespeare outside the classroom, through drama, with the Y8 girls. The girls had studied the language in the play very closely, and found the practical approach to learning was another useful way to help develop their understanding of character. They agreed that their sympathy towards Hero had heightened as a result of having the opportunity to act out short scenes from the play, and particularly enjoyed hurling insults at Hero after she had been humiliated and disgraced by Claudio on her wedding day! Overall, it was a successful session, enjoyed enormously by the Year 8s.
