Catherine’s Record Breaking Ironman Championships
Former Stamford High School and Stamford Junior School student, Catherine Faux, put in a stunning performance in last weekend’s Ironman World Championships in Hawaii. Having only competed in her first triathlon in 2009, Catherine made a massive impact as she broke the F25-F29 Age Group record and finished as the first Age Group (amateur) athlete overall. She also managed to set a new record, becoming the fastest female Age Group (amateur) in Hawaii, ever!
Ironman distance triathlon involves a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle, rounded off by a 26.2 mile (marathon) run. Catherine's finishing time of 9:15:16 would have made the top ten in the female Pro race.
Catherine is currently studying for a degree in medicine at Sheffield University where she started her triathlon career by buying a bike in during her second year! Since then she hasn’t looked back and hopes to continue breaking triathlon records.
