Victory Over Bourne Grammar in NatWest Cup

Stamford School finished their half term with a feast of attacking rugby in the pouring October monsoon that hit Stamford midweek. Round 3 of the NatWest Cup saw Stamford School First XV host Bourne Grammar School. Stamford started brightly and despite resting a large number of key personnel for the upcoming National XVs at St Joseph’s College Ipswich, were able to retain possession in the wet and go forward. Ben Groom and Callum Crellin opened the scoring with good work wide from Ewan Hatt and Callum Corbett who as Under 16s were making their First XV debut. Consistent forward pressure allowed Declan Spaine to sneak over for the first of his hat tricks and Captain Connor Collett bagged two tries just before the half time whistle. Prop Oli Arnold showed great feet to dance over from short range and vice-captain Ralph Offer sprinted home early in the second half as the referee brought the game to a close as Stamford crossed the 50 point mark. The win puts them through to round 4 of the NatWest Cup where they will more than likely be away to Spalding Grammar School.
