First XV put on another fine display
Stamford School First XV played out their final block fixture of the season in style with a sound beating of Loughborough Grammar School. Led by George Cox, Josh Allen and Connor Collett, Stamford defended superbly and their tackle completion rate and great discipline stifled the visitors attack and kept them at bay for the whole contest. A sunny dry afternoon helped to reduce the error rate and Stamford’s backs were able to capitalise as first Henry Martin sprinted over before Ralph Offer stormed through the centres.
Good work up front allowed Jamie Richardson to dart through a hole and his speed saw him whip round the full back to score. Crellin converted for a 19-0 half time lead. Loughborough offered some resistance but eventually the pressure told and the more width Stamford played with the better they got. Callum Corbett danced over from the half way line and lock Henry Charlton ran a fantastic line to carve up the defence and dive towards the posts taking the score passed 30.
Coach David Laventure was pleased; “The boys are playing really top stuff at the moment, this was a great run out ahead of the big match on Wednesday.”
Stamford play Bedford Modern School at 2pm Wednesday 11th December in the last 32 of the NatWest Cup at home. The second XV also put in a fine display – they are still unbeaten as are the 3rd XV with only one game to go!
