U13’s coached by former All-Black

craig newby rugby trainingStamford School U13 Rugby teams enjoyed a special treat last week as they received expert coaching from former All Black and Leicester Tigers star, Craig Newby.

Craig Newby spent the majority of his rugby career in New Zealand, playing for the Otago Highlanders as well as representing his country. Since retiring from professional rugby in 2012, Craig has become a consultant for the Matt Hampson Foundation.

The U13A and B squads were thrilled to be coached under the watchful eye of Craig ahead of their weekend fixtures against Loughborough, which the U13Bs went on to win.

Director of Sport at Stamford School, David Laventure, said: “The All Blacks are the pinnacle of world sport – it’s great for the boys at whatever level to hear advice and tips from people that have been at the top of their sport.”

Archie Offer, Under 13 player, said: “Craig was brilliant - I think we learned once again as we do with all our other coaches that rugby is a very simple game!”
