Eastern Region Team Racing Championships
Teams from the East of England and East Midlands met at Rutland Water on Saturday 17th May for the regional team racing championships. Fifteen teams entered, with each team comprising six sailors. The Stamford Endowed Schools team consisted of; Hannah Brewis (captain), James Leetch, Ed Whattoff, Molly Naylor, Sam Leedham and Jem Leedham with Rob Reiss as reserve.
During the first phase of racing, 42 races of about 10 minutes duration were held, allowing each team to sail against six of the other competitors, drawn randomly. At the conclusion Stamford had beaten Uppingham, Oundle and Oakham B team, and had won 4 out of 6 of their races. The success of the SES team can be attributed in part to the support and coaching the team have received from Sarah Kemp, an expert team racer who has competed at the highest levels.
The SES team just missed out on the semi-finals, but at the end of the day of racing they were ranked 6th equal, bettering their previous best placing in this competition.
