Junior Ski Trip to Courmayeur
This year’s junior ski trip saw 42 Stamford High School students from Years 8 and 9 travel to Courmayeur in Italy. The trip offered new challenges for those skiing for the first time as well as those tackling the moguls and perfecting their carving.
The group of students and staff departed from SHS on the Saturday afternoon before arriving in resort on Sunday lunchtime. After ski fit and an early night the girls survived their first day on the slopes with not a cloud to be seen and perfect skiing conditions.
The evenings consisted of various après ski activities ranging from a traditional Italian Pizza evening, disco, bowling and the infamous karaoke night. Karaoke was certainly a highlight of the trip with Miss Smith’s team winning the staff and pupil sing off.
After 6 days of skiing we returned to Stamford intact with no injuries and for many a great goggle tan! Courmayeur’s weather made a week to never forget as all had made progress on the slopes with some complete beginners managing a black run on their final day.
SHS will be revisiting the slopes again in Easter 2015, this time to the resort of La Thuile, a little further up the valley.
