More National Success for First XV Players
After ending 2014 on a high, Stamford School’s First XV have now celebrated the New Year with more good news and national recognition for some of the senior players.
Josh Allen and Henry Hives, both Year 13 students, were selected to play for the Lambs U18 Northern Squad, a representative side made up of players from the top Independent schools around the country, where they will play in the final England Lambs rugby trials. Henry and Josh, both First XV players have progressed through trials and played for the Midlands Squad, and they will now go on to represent the North against the South.
Good news also came in the shape of First XV back row, George Cox, who was selected in the Rugby World Magazine All Stars Team of the Term. Director of Rugby David Laventure was full of praise for George, who plays for the Northampton Saints U18s; “It’s a great achievement to be held in such high regard, when you look at the players in that side. He has worked very hard this season and stands at the start of what we all hope will be a promising career in the game.”
As testament to the strength of rugby at Stamford School George is the 4th player in 4 years from the First XV to be selected following Louis Grimoldby (2011), who is currently with Harlequins, Tom Gulland (2012) who is with Championship side Blaydon and Connor Collett (2013) who is currently playing in New Zealand.
