Stamford School U18s into Last 16

SS hockey Stamford School’s First XI team set off to Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School on Wednesday 11th March, with a place in the last sixteen of the National Plate Competition at stake.

The team were up against a very physical and hardworking Vesey side who made it difficult for Stamford to get playing at their normal pace. The first goal of the game came from Arthur Franklin, off a short corner, which encouraged the boys to move forward with more intent. However, a broken down short corner punished the Stamford team and Vesey’s were back in the game.

Bishop Vesey’s, to their credit, gave the Stamford midfield a torrid time throughout the game but this did not deter Stamford and when Jules Bramachari went through clean on goal and was deliberately fouled by an opposing defender there was only one outcome, a penalty stroke. With only five minutes left in the game Jules was made to wait but coolly slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner. Sending the boys onto another win for the season and into the next round of the England Hockey U18 Plate, to face Denstone College in the next round.
