Oliver Makes a Big Splash in National Swim Gala

Oliver Perkins with his Lincolnshire County Colours for swimmingYear 13 pupil Oliver Perkins swam for Lincolnshire at the British Gas ASA National County Team Championships on Sunday 16th October 2011, held at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield.

Oliver, 17, from Corby Glen, was called up along with around 30 swimmers to represent the county in the national competition, which sees the best swimmers from across Britain compete in this prestigious swimming event.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Asthis As this was Oliver’s first Lincolnshire team selection in a national competition, he was awarded County Colours in recognition of his achievement. Inspired by the occasion, Oliver was also able to achieve a new personal best of 26.80 seconds in the 50m Butterfly. Oliver, who normally swims for the Deepings Swimming Club, was competing in the 200m Medley team in the 16-17 years age category.

Oliver commented “I felt proud to swim for the county and am particularly happy I was able to achieve a new personal best; it makes all the hours of training worth it.”
