SES Win an Array of Gymnastics Medals

MISGA Gymnastics Fifty students, from Year 1 up to Sixth Form, took part in the Midlands Independent Schools Gymnastics Championships (MISGA) in Birmingham last weekend. The gymnasts ranged from novice to advanced level and there were many medals awarded throughout the different age ranges.

The SES team returned to Stamford with four individual champions and one team champion, which is an accomplishment for them to be proud of. Congratulations to the Under 11 Advanced team who became Team Champions with two sensational performances from Lottie Davies 2nd , and Lottie Smith who was crowned MISGA Champion for the Under 11’s category. This means that Lottie Smith has won all three major school U11 titles this year! Other commendable achievements from Junior School pupils came from Josephine Griffiths, who became MISGA Champion for the Under 9’s.

The most prestigious achievement was Year 13 Stamford High School student, Gaby Bangay, who became MISGA Champion for the Senior ‘A’ Team category. After ten years of representing SES, this was Gaby’s final gymnastics competition for the School’s and she certainly finished her career in style, achieving a score of 19.2 out of a possible 20.

Lynette Harte, Senior Girls Squad Coach said “Gaby gave a stunning performance, showing her strength and outstanding gymnastic ability. She achieved 9.6 for her voluntary floor exercise in which she completed advanced skills of a somersault tumble and an ariel cartwheel, and also 9.6 for her vault which had incredible flight and precision.”

Trudy Smith, Gymnastics Coach, said “All of the gymnasts were a credit to the school, with everyone enjoying the opportunity to compete and give their absolute best performance. At the end of the competition, the gymnasts were thrilled to be presented with a commemorative Jubilee medal engraved with their event on the back.
