‘All Star’ Rugby at Stamford School
Stamford School First XV had a late but welcome Christmas present, as they were awarded the prestigious ‘Team of the Month’ from Rugby World magazine. The boys were nominated from a shortlist which included; Bryanston School and Dulwich College, and were named winners on the back of a historic unbeaten season.
In addition, there was great news for First XV Captain, Tom Gulland, who was selected for their ‘All Star Team of the Term’. This is the second time in a row that the Stamford School Rugby captain has won this award, with 2011 First XV skipper, Louis Grimoldby (now at Harlequins), also being selected.
Head of Stamford School, Will Phelan, said: “The award of Rugby World Team of the Month is a fine accolade and one which is only given to six teams per annum. It has been a thrilling season, often tense, always exciting, where some great rugby has been played. Tom Gulland has done tremendously well and has been rewarded with selection in the Rugby World All Star Team, fully deserved.”
Director of Rugby David Laventure added: "Tom deserves it- he has worked very hard and to follow in Louis’ footsteps is tremendous. He has a bright future ahead of him.”
