SES Dominate at Gymnastics Championship
Four teams from the Stamford Endowed Schools competed in the East Midlands Floor and Vault Championships. As well as being the Regional Championships, the event was a qualifier for the National Finals in May, with the winning team from each category going forward to represent the region.
The SES teams represented at the championships were the U11 mixed, U11 girls, U14 girls and U19 girls. All of the team performed with determination and enthusiasm throughout the competition. The U19 team were strong but they were up against tough opposition and they did extremely well to finish in 3rd place.
The U11 mixed team competently dominated their category to win the event, nearly 15 marks clear of the second place team. Both the U11 and U14 girls’ teams didn’t have such an easy ride and were up against some tough competition, but they kept their nerve and proved their ability with both teams finishing 1st in their respective categories.
As well as dominating the team medals, the SES gymnasts were also successful individually, with four champions and several other medallists. Please see below for the individual results:
1st place – Lottie Davies (U11 Mixed), Lucy Porteus (U11 Girls), Lottie Smith (U14 Girls) and Maddy Young (U19 Girls)
2nd place – Bella Plant (U11 Mixed)
3rd place – Alexander Hayes (U11 Mixed), Josephine Griffiths (U11 Girls) and Emilie Morris (U14 Girls)
Gymnastics Coach, Trudy Smith, said: “These fabulous results mean that SES will be represented at the National Finals in 3 categories – U11 Girls, U14 Girls and U11 Mixed which is an amazing achievement.”
