Stamford School Fight First Fencing Fixture for 20 Years!

Stamford School Y9 Fencing TeamThe recent Y9 epee match against Uppingham school was a very close-fought contest. Stamford’s first fencing fixture in nearly 20 years and Uppingham’s first match in a decade, this was the first opportunity our Y9 boys had to fence against new opposition.

Jimmy Zak (Captain) did well to win his first bout 5-4, and both Elliott Philips and Charles Bennie out-pointed their opponents in several of their bouts, displaying skill and determination despite only fencing for a few months. However, the greater experience of our adversaries allowed them to build up an 11 point lead which our boys could not overcome before Uppingham won the 45 points needed for victory.

Nevertheless, this was a closely contested competition and could have gone either way up until the last bout.

We are all looking forward to a rematch in the near future.
