Unbeaten Half Term for First XI
Stamford School First XI brought the curtain down on a successful half term of cricket defeating Worskop College by 3 wickets. Zak Chappell (47) and Ben Harford (38) led the way on the way to chasing down the home target of 172. This win sees the side go into the break unbeaten with 7 wins from 7 games.
The season started a solid victory over Uppingham in a 20/20 contest before a comprehensive win over TDA Peterborough. Captain Charlie Page-Morris inspired the side with the ball taking 4 for 32 to deny Bedford Modern School victory. A week later he did it with the bat as his tidy knock of 81 made a significant dent in Haileybury School’s chance of a win. Henry Charlton tormented the visiting batsmen at the death taking 5 for 22.
Trent College were the next visitors although they were quickly out of the game as the home side put 235 on the board. Ben Groom scored a fantastic 113 aided by Henry Charlton who hit a very destructive 53 followed by a sensational 5 wicket haul for the second week in a row.
The boys were now in fine form and continued to score freely. Loughborough Grammar School were the next to fall as they were unable to put significant pressure on the Stamford pair of Charlton and Groom. Charlton finished not out on 47 and Groom finished off his second century in as many weeks with 117.
Master IC Cricket David Jackson was full of praise for the team: “They should be proud of their record. There are tough tests to come but as long as they keep their focus and work hard, they will be tough to beat. They are a young side who continue to impress performing under great pressure.”
