Overseas students and other students for whom English is an Additional Language make an invaluable and much respected contribution to life at the Stamford Endowed Schools. Every effort is made to ensure that they thrive and are fully part of the schools.
Where EAL tuition is needed, this is tailored to student needs, with lessons given by specialist teachers. Language development is supported so that pupils are able to access the wider curriculum as well as to take the qualifications that will enable them to continue into higher education. In Y11, some students may take the IGCSE in English as a Second Language, while in the Sixth Form, many will be prepared for the Academic IELTS examinations. In Lower and Middle School, pupils may also have EAL tuition instead of studying another modern, foreign language.
The schools also maintain an up-to-date register of students with EAL requirements to allow all staff to be aware of the needs of these students and to differentiate accordingly.
Up to four sessions a week of EAL support are included in the full boarding fees.
