Stamford High School is equipped to the highest standard with the aim of bringing the best possible opportunities to our pupils.
Information and Communication Technologies
Two ICT rooms (each capable of holding a full class) are linked to a whole school intranet used in both teaching and administration. ICT has a crucial role to play in modern teaching and learning, so we are committed to making multimedia computers available throughout the school, in classrooms and in the library as well as in the dedicated ICT rooms. These are all connected to the Internet, with additional laptop computers and projectors available for girls to borrow for work or presentations in other parts of the school. Classrooms are also fitted with interactive whiteboards.
In a School where the students are keen to participate in the scientific subjects – bucking the national trend for girls in the sciences – we are pleased to offer first-rate science facilities. This includes the recently completed Rosalind Franklin Laboratory, equipped with the cutting edge ‘Biotechnology Explorer Program’, allowing students to study DNA in a hands-on way that connects science in the classroom to topical applications in the real world.
The newly refurbished Senior Reference Library is spacious and conducive to work. With a full time librarian on hand, it serves as an information centre for all pupils, and provides both traditional and electronic resources to help with independent learning. Modern novels are housed in the fiction library, whilst libraries in the boarding houses contain both reference and fiction books. All girls are encouraged to choose new books from the libraries on a regular basis, which helps promote the pleasures of reading and a lifelong appreciation of books.
Other aspects of the creative arts are well catered for; the school has a well-equipped purpose-built Design and Technology block to provide outstanding facilities for our girls to study art, pottery, technology, food technology, computer aided design and textiles. The drama studio has the latest state-of-the-art audio and visual equipment, and the Music Department has all the facilities needed to supply everything from individual lessons to full orchestral concerts.
The sports facilities at the Kettering Road site include a pavilion, an indoor heated swimming pool, 11 tennis courts, 9 netball courts, hockey pitches, an athletics track, 2 football pitches and a large sports hall.
