Hockey is the main sport in the Spring Term and has been played at Stamford School for well over one hundred years. It is a popular games option and is also fiercely contested in House competitions.
Hockey is coached throughout the whole school, starting with the basics in Year 7. Fortunately the days of uneven surfaces, mud and slush are gone as the school now plays all its hockey on our superb Astroturf pitch. Floodlights extend the available playing times, and similar facilities are available when required at our sister establishment, Stamford High School.
Stamford School has over twenty hockey teams in the Spring as well as two indoor teams in the Autumn term. The teams compete in a very strong fixture list featuring the likes of Whitgift, Oakham, Uppingham and Stowe. In the past three years the school has qualified for three national finals with a national silver medal last year.
Pre-season training occurs under the lights throughout the Autumn term, with the majority of fixtures taking place between Christmas and Easter.
The school has taken tours overseas to Europe and national tournaments, and residential pre season training ensures we compete well at all the national competitions.
A great deal of success is regularly achieved at county level, and we have produced our fair share of county, regional and international players.
The hockey programme is led by Director of Hockey Mr Jack Cropper who brings a wealth of experience from a coaching and playing background. He can be contacted on firstname.lastname@example.org
