Stamford School

Shooting

The success of Shooting in recent years has been truly remarkable, and Stamford School can justifiably claim to be one of the very top schools in the country in this sport.

The school is fortunate to have its own range on site, and expert tuition is available to boys from Year 9 onwards who want to shoot recreationally, as part of the Combined Cadet Force or competitively in the school teams. There are introductory sessions for all as part of the Saturday morning activity programme, and specialist training is given to those who will go on into the national and international competitions.

One of Stamford School’s proudest sporting achievements was achieved in recent years with the winning of shooting’s most coveted trophy, the prestigious Ashburton Shield, at Bisley for two years out of three, and setting in the millennium year a national record which can never be beaten.

The school continues regularly to produce fine marksmen, several of whom have gone on to shoot in international competition. This includes six recent Old Stamfordians who have been selected to shoot for Great Britain.
