Tennis is the main summer term sport at Stamford High School. The School boasts a number of all-weather tennis courts, including 12 Astro-turf courts and 6 hard courts. With the added bonus of the all year round courts at the Stamford School site, it provides the opportunity for the girls to be involved with tennis throughout the year with coaching during the autumn and spring term.
At Stamford High School Tennis is part of the Year 7-9 core Physical Education lessons and is a popular games option for Years 10-13 and played by a large number of girls at all ages. During the summer term the girls are involved with a competitive fixture list against both local schools such as Oundle, Oakham and Uppingham and slightly further afield fixtures such as Wellingborough, Bedford Girls and The Leys. The girls can also get involved with the annual inter-house competition.
The extra-curricular programme at Stamford High School provides age group training nights after school and more recently offering the opportunity for annual pre-season tennis camps in Spain to brush up on technique, fitness and tactical awareness before the season starts.
In addition to the school opportunities many girls make good use of Stamford Tennis Club which is located at Stamford School and continues to provide professional coaching throughout the year.
