Budding Lawyers Visit Law Society
13 budding lawyers from the Stamford Endowed Schools visited the Law Society at the invitation of Mr Nick Fluck, an Old Stamfordian and Senior Partner at Stapletons who is currently President of the Law Society.
The students gained a fascinating insight into the work of the Law Society and, in particular the role of the President. The students were shown the cellars where once upon a time lawyers could rent space to store their papers and toured the library where they have access to a copy of every statute ever produced. With a display of all the various formats laws have been stored in, the Library introduced the students to not only some very old papers but also things that were old to them like reel to reel tape.
The day was completed with a visit to the Old Bailey where the students sat in on a case about a shooting but unfortunately didn’t get to hear the verdicts on Andy Coulson or Rebecca Brooks.
Liz Salt, Head of Careers Stamford High School, said: “The students found it fascinating and great help to them in deciding on careers. Some have decided the law is definitely not for them but one or two were eyeing up the role of President or judge and will definitely try to emulate Nick Fluck with a career in law.”
