SES Hosts ‘An Evening of Classics’

 classics evening at shsThe Stamford Endowed Schools Classics department hosted “An Evening of Classics” on Wednesday 5th November, highlighting the relevance of Latin today, with many interesting stories and facts about Classical Society.

During the evening, staff and pupils presented various topics from the world of the Greeks and the Romans, including a discussion of the merits of the film “Troy”, the relevance of Latin today, the truth behind Julius Caesar and the town of Pompeii. Perhaps the highlights were the two pieces of “live theatre”; Year 9 girls presented a play in Latin (with translation) set in Roman Britain and the Year 10 boys bandied Latin jokes while awaiting their patron at the “salutatio”.

Head of Classics, Mike Blissett, commented: “This inaugural event was very well attended and has sown the seeds for a more ambitious project next year.”
