Students Raise Funds with a Readathon
Students at Stamford School took part in a sponsored ‘Readathon’, to raise money for the ‘Friends of Chernobyl’s Children’.
A group of Stamford School pupils were sponsored for the number of pages that they could read on a particular day, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. They gathered for the reading in the school’s RLC. The event was organised by teacher, Mrs Lorna Blissett, and is an annual event in the SES charity calendar.
The event raises funds for the charity FOCC, who devote themselves to bringing children from Belarus to England for recuperative visits, so that they can receive medical and dental treatment, as well as take part in a range of fun activities.
This year the School will sponsor the visit to England of Maksim (11), who lives with his extended family in Belarus, where the land is still heavily contaminated by the effects of the Chernobyl disaster.
Mrs Cecilia Hammond, the local representative from FOCC, said “I am always so impressed by the young people that take part”.
