ESU Recognises Debating at Stamford School
In response to an application for the Schools’ Mace 60 Award, Stamford School has received a commendation from the English-Speaking Union for its initiatives to embed and celebrate a whole-school debating culture throughout the school. The English-Speaking Union champions public speaking and debating worldwide and its Schools’ Debating Mace competition has been running for 60 years. The Schools’ Mace 60 Award is a prize that celebrates recognises the efforts and initiatives that schools put forward to cultivate a long-term debating culture within their school community.
Judges were impressed by the school’s application, which involved providing evidence of successful debating initiatives, highlighting individual students who have grown in confidence and debating ability as a result of the school’s debating culture and detailing future plans to maintain the debating culture already established.
Shiraz Engineer, Competitions Officer at the English-Speaking Union, commented: “The judges enjoyed reading your application and were impressed with your school’s initiatives”.
