Gymnasts show promise in national competition
Two teams from the Stamford Endowed Schools took part in the prestigious IAPS National Gymnastics Championships at the Bluecoat School in Birmingham.
The U10 and U11 gymnasts competed individually across 4 events – Set Floor, Set Vault, Voluntary Floor and Voluntary Vault. There was also a separate Group Sequence competition which the U10 team took part in. This involved 4 out of the 5 team members performing a synchronised routine.
All of the SES gymnasts competed well. The U11 team had two new members, who gained valuable experience. They showed incredible team spirit and surpassed their target to finish in 8th place out of 13.
The U10 team have made considerable progress over the past year and showed determination during their competition. They gained some promising scores to finish in 6th place and received medals.
After having performed a beautiful group routine, the Under 10 team were delighted to be awarded 3rd place in this section of the competition. This is an amazing achievement and is the first time our gymnasts have ‘broken into’ the top 3 schools for a number of years.
Isabella Plant (U10) displayed some of the most difficult moves of the weekend and proved her talent by finishing 5th individually out of 65. She was competing against some of GB’s nationally ranked gymnasts so this was a remarkable achievement.
