Local Nurseries Attend Early Years Seminar
Samantha Weeks, Director of Early Years at Stamford Junior School, led a seminar discussing the internationally renowned and celebrated approach to Early Childhood found in Reggio Emilia, Northern Italy. Stamford Junior School was pleased to welcome representatives from local Early Years settings – both Nassington Pre-School and Tallington ABC Nursery. This was a great opportunity for Stamford Nursery School and the Junior School’s Reception class teams, along with visitors to share their knowledge surrounding Early Childhood. Samantha was lucky enough to have travelled to Italy and visit the Infant Toddler and Pre Schools in Reggio Emilia; an experience which fundamentally altered and guided her approach to working with young children. The approach is rooted in a deep respect for children as citizens with a full set of rights, appreciating that children communicate in ‘100 languages of expression’. The creative and expressive arts are central to this approach as a way of supporting and developing children’s thinking.
Junior School Director of Early Years, Samantha Weeks, said: “There was a warm and positive buzz to the evening, reminding us all of the benefits of learning together!”
