Stamford Young People Celebrate Fairtrade Chocolate Week
Students at the High School, New College and Queen Eleanor School are delighted to find Fairtrade chocolate on the curriculum as they celebrate Fairtrade Chocolate Week (11th-16th October).
Among the projects being undertaken are;
The chemistry of chocolate.
Designing and printing posters to advertise the week
A large wall hanging /canvas of African inspiration
Drama about Fairtrade and cocoa production
Painting with chocolate
Designing chocolate wrappers
Poems about chocolate
Designing a Fairtrade chocolate website
Music, raps and jingles
Maths: Chocolate tessellations / puzzles
Poster with the word chocolate in different languages.
The work is to be exhibited at New College on Tuesday 12th October. During the Exhibition students of New College will be able to help get a direct video ling with students in Ghana whose parents harvest cocoa. Ambassadors from New College, Queen Eleanor and the High School will talk directly to the students in Ghana to learn about each others lifestyles. The video link is organised by Tom Allen of Trading Visions and the school in Ghana will be the New Koforidua Junior High School, near Kumasi where they have 100 students.
Tom Allen will also be doing a ‘bean to bar’ talk and chocolate tasting.
