Students Compete in World Sailing Championship
Stamford Endowed Schools’ students Tom Proffitt and Jessica Flint recently travelled to Travemunde, Germany, to compete in the RS Feva World Championships, Jessica also represented the schools with James Hayes in the NSSA National Championships.
Following a year of training Tom Proffitt and Jess Flint (Years 12 and 9) headed off to the RS Feva World Championships in Germany. A large-scale sailing regatta with 162 RS Feva teams consisting of 324 sailors participating in the 2015 Championships.
Working hard through the qualifiers, Tom Proffitt and Jess Flint successfully achieved their main aim of qualifying for Gold Fleet, in 22nd position.
The finals began late in the afternoon with a steady 8 knot breeze. Despite a consistent strength, the wind was continuously shifting. Overall, Jess and Tom finished the competition 43rd, achieving their goal of a placing in the top 50 in the World.
James Hayes and Jessica Flint represented Stamford Endowed Schools at a National School Sailing Association event during the summer holidays.
James and Jess, despite never having sailed together before their first race on the Monday, competed together for 5 days. For the first half of the week they were in 2nd position - an amazing result they had not expected. During the second half of the week the wind drop which had an impact on their boat speed. They ended a very respectable 4th overall.
