Double Hockey Success for SHS against Wisbech
Saturday 17th October saw Stamford High Schools’ First XI and U15 ‘A’ Hockey teams emerge victorious from their respective games against Wisbech Grammar School.
The First XI made a strong start to the game, and were rewarded when they scored their first goal of the afternoon inside five minutes. After some concerted pressure to the Wisbech defence, the team were soon celebrating their second goal just minutes later.
A fantastic approach was taken to this game and the team worked very well together, displaying speed and strength in their counter attacks, and solid teamwork in defence. Some great saves from Lexi Taylor in goal made it difficult for Wisbech to get on the score board, registering just one goal, and SHS proceeded to add two more to their own tally. Goals from Eliza Kay, Charlie Crombie, Issy Chedd and Maeve Macdonald helped the team record a convincing 4-1 win.
In the day’s other match, Stamford High Schools’ Hockey U15 ‘A’ team also found success against Wisbech Grammar School, after a hard fought 1-0 victory.
The U15s got off to a flying start and attacked with great determination against a very tough Wisbech side. Louise Arnold scored the only goal of the match in the second half after several great opportunities had been created by Ellie Bolsover’s rapid drives.
Wisbech didn't give up and continued to apply pressure. Only some great defending and teamwork from Georgie Talukdar and Ella Baines in defence and excellent saves from Georgie Lachlan managed to hold off Wisbech and helped SHS secure the 1-0 win. Overall a positive performance from the U15s, who are showing excellent progress and continue to shine as a team.
