Runners Advance to Lincolnshire Cross Country Championships
On Thursday 17th November Stamford Cross Country team performed exceptionally well on a cold and windy day in Burghley Park during the South Kesteven Cross Country championships with eight students qualifying for the Lincolnshire Championships in total.
With boys running from Years 7-12 there was a fantastic range of year groups represented. The Year 7 boys were in the first race of the day and Sam Gordon-Kerr lead from the gun. He ran a focused race and held the lead right to the finish, taking a brilliant first place. He was closely followed by Elliot Dee and Ben Gould who both also qualified to run for South Kesteven at the Lincolnshire championships next year.
In the junior competition (Year 8 and 9) there was more success with Inigo Gillick coming second, James Rothwell third, Sam Hughes fourth and Tom Hattee fifth. All of which are in Year 8. Benji Davies from Year 9 also qualified. The inter and senior boys had a tough race with a number of very good runners and performed extremely well in the gusty conditions.
Stamford School teacher James Mitchell was delighted; “Overall, it was a fantastic day with Stamford runners really doing themselves proud. The next stage is the Lincolnshire championships on 21st January 2017.”
