Girls Win Place in National Tennis Final

Stamford High School and Junior School girls reach Save The Children Tennis FinalsIsabel Chedd aged 12, a former SJS pupil now in year 7 at Stamford High School and Lucy Baker aged 10, year 6 at SJS, had a very successful day at the Save The Children Regional Tennis Finals staged at The Westway, London on Sunday 4 October.

Despite strong opposition, they won their first match against St Mary's, Ascot 6 - 3. They fought very hard in their second match against an experienced couple from Cheam Tennis Club, winning a well played tie-break 6 - 5.

After a short rest, they went onto the semi-final stage where they won conclusively against the Putney High School partnership 6 - 1. In the final they met an extremely accomplished doubles pairing from Lady Eleanor Holles and, despite fighting hard, were worthy runners-up.

They have now secured their place to attend the National Finals to be held at The National Tennis Centre at Roehampton on October 31, where they will have the opportunity to train with the professionals.

Well done girls!
