Megan selected for East Midlands U18 Rugby Squad
Stamford High School Year 11 student, Megan Blackman, has been selected for the U18 East Midlands rugby squad after attending trials in February. Megan plays for Peterborough U18 girls’ team and attended an East Midlands trial where she completed drills in tackling and ball handling as well as a series of short matches. After impressing the coaches, Megan received a selection email and the following weekend attended her first training session focusing on the 7s format of the game. She played her first match on Sunday 24th February against the Eastern counties and NLD (Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire) in which they played 7’s, X Rugby and full 15 aside matches, the first year that all three formats of rugby have been played on the same day.
Head of Sport at Stamford High School, Maria Bewers commented: ‘Megan is passionate her sport, and we enjoy plenty of discussions on the development of women’s rugby. Megan has shown great commitment and dedication and fully deserves this selection and we are very proud of her achievement. We wish Megan all the best in her future fixtures and look forward to following her success.’
