Sailors Raise Thousands for Charity

The Stamford School sailors Earlier this year the SES Sailing Team combined with Oakham School and the Rutland Sailing Club to raise just over £3000 for the RNLI through a sponsored Night Sail at Rutland Water.

One weekend in June the young sailors sailed from 8.00pm on Saturday to 8.00am on Sunday, covering the distance from Rutland to Bruinisse in the Netherlands, where the 2011 Feva World Championships were held in the summer.

The night sail has now become an annual event, helping to raise thousands for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution; a charity which depends on brave volunteers to provide a 24 hour search and rescue service around the UK coast to save lives at sea.

Chris Young, from the Leicester Branch of the RNLI, commented “I’d like to thank the Stamford Endowed Schools’ students for taking part. The final figure raised was £3122.11. Your contribution is very much appreciated and I hope to see the sailors at the 2012 event on 23rd June.”
