Sixth Form Students Volunteer at Charity Ball
Seven kind-hearted Sixth Form students volunteered to help with the 5th annual Evergreen Care Trust Charity Ball, which took place on 1st October 2011 at the Haycock Hotel in Wansford.
The ball recognises the excellent work done by the Evergreen Care Trust, which cares and provides for the elderly and vulnerable in Stamford and surrounding areas. The SES volunteers, all dressed up in posh frocks, jackets and ties, helped to run fundraisers on the night, including a silent auction, tombola and photo booth. Here many attendees paid for a memento photo of the fantastic occasion taken by sixth former and avid photographer Kevin Kwok. These activities contributed towards a record figure of just under £5,000 raised for the Evergreen Care Trust.
Speaking on behalf of the Trust, volunteer Vincent O’Shea commented “The Ball could not function as it does without the students’ support, and again this year we have received many unsolicited comments about what a fine bunch of young people they were, and what a credit they are to their parents and school. Over five years the pupils have been instrumental in helping us raise almost £25,000 through their support at the Ball.”
The SES volunteers - Ben Szuba, Will Bacon, Jack Milner, Matthew Pennill, Kevin Kwok, Holly Archer and Laura Gibson – have now proudly been confirmed and welcomed as ‘Friends of The Evergreen Care Trust’ and hope to be involved in more fund-raising activities in the near future. Co-ordinator of the SES team Ben Szuba (Y13) commented “It was a great pleasure for us all to be involved.”
Volunteering at the Ball is just one of the many ways SES pupils support the Evergreen Care Trust. Other highlights include visits from the choir singing Christmas Carols and the Christmas Afternoon Tea at SHS.
We are also looking forward to seeing many pupils and staff running in their Santa suits for the trust at the annual Santa Fun Run at Burghley.
