Award-Winning Author Visits High School
Pupils from Stamford High School were fortunate to meet award-winning children’s author and illustrator Sally Gardner this week.
Sally, author of a number of successful novels, including critically acclaimed ‘I, Coriander’ – winner of the Nestle Children’s Book Prize in 2005 – visited the High School on 31st January to give a formal talk to Year 9 pupils, followed by an informal question and answer session with members of the Junior Book Club (Years 7 to 9).
As the group tucked into the range of cakes baked by pupils and parents, Sally entertained the girls with stories of her time spent in Paris researching and writing novels ‘The Red Necklace’ and ‘The Silver Blade.’ She answered many questions, including her inspiration for becoming an author and why she writes for children, and provided a deeper insight into her characters and novels.
Sally also discussed the challenges of being an author with severe dyslexia and signed copies of her books for her lucky fans.
