Gymnastics team reach national finals

A team of gymnasts from the Stamford Endowed Schools have reached the National Finals of the Schools Floor and Vault Championships after sweeping the medals at the recent East Midlands competition, hosted by the Endowed Schools.

In a remarkable achievement, individuals from the Under 11 Girls A team scooped 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in their event and finished with the highest team total of the day, eleven points clear of the silver medallists.

Lucy Porteus won bronze, Lottie Davies won silver and Lottie Smith won gold, with a fantastic total of 19.55 out of 20. This talented team has now qualified for the National Finals in May, for the 9th consecutive year.   The Under 11 Girls B team finished 2nd, after some much improved performances.

Six teams from across the Stamford Endowed Schools competed at the championships, with all twenty-five gymnasts performing to the best of their ability, which resulted in a strong set of team results.

The U11 mixed team, most of whom were U9, finished in 2nd place overall, narrowly missing out on qualifying for National Finals. Two of the team did though finish with individual medals, as Dan Smith came 2nd and Alexander Hayes finished 3rd.

The U13 Girls A team finished 4th, with Emilie Morris placing 1st and Ciara Mark in 3rd, narrowly missing out on a bronze medal, while the B team came 7th.

The U19 Girls finished in 5th place, with some great individual performances, particularly from Sophie Kendal, who finished in 3rd.

Trudy Smith, Gym Coach at Stamford Junior School, said “This was a great overall achievement. All the gymnasts work very hard and they are great ambassadors for the Endowed Schools.”
