U11 Hockey Team in National Finals
After winning the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS) Midlands and North Regional Hockey round at Repton School in Derbyshire, the Stamford Junior School U11 boys’ hockey team travelled to Wellington College, Berkshire, for the National Finals with nineteen other schools.
After four fixtures in the morning Stamford topped their group, with three convincing wins over Forres Sandle Manor, Altrincham Prep and Marlborough House and one loss against Millfield School, who placed second.
In the quarter finals, Stamford could not make their possession and chances count and finally lost 2-0 to Felsted. After a gruelling 2-2 draw with Cargilfield School, Edinburgh, Stamford unfortunately lost on penalties and ended up placing 7th nationally.
The following day they were entered into a tournament with local prep schools in the Swindon area and returned home with more silverware. They won all five fixtures, scoring 18 goals and conceding none.
Coach Matthew Sutterby, said “The boys have trained exceptionally hard over the term, playing a lot of fabulous hockey and reaping the benefits. They should be very proud of their achievements.”
