Celebrating Science at SJS!
Ahead of the Olympic Games in July, Stamford Junior School pupils took part in a Science Week focusing on sports science. The week kicked off with a visit from Roger Canham, Stamford School Old Boy and GB Veteran Ironman. As a long distance triathlete, Roger swims 500 miles, cycles 15,000 miles and runs 2,500 miles every year in training! He inspired the children as he recalled his ‘B team’ days at school.
The children spent the week doing various practical investigations such as; testing whether human height is equal to span, and monitoring pulse rates during and after exercise. The children also learnt about pursuing careers in science.
Mrs Helen Britton, teacher at the School, said “All the children have thoroughly enjoyed learning in practical, collaborative and fun ways. Most importantly, they have learnt that science has something for everyone. It’s been a real success!”
