Year 13 Debate Team Become Area Champions
Stamford School's year 13 debating team, Anish Dattani and Charles Griffin, enjoyed success in the area and regional finals of the ESU debating competition, held at King Edward VI, Fiveways, Birmingham on March 13th.
The boys became area champions after their first debate on the Copenhagen climate change summit, which placed them among the top 24 schools nationally. They then went on to take part in the regional finals later in the day, with a short prep debate on social networking sites. They lost by a narrow margin to Malvern College, who went through to the national final.
Both boys thoroughly enjoyed the experience: Charles proved to be a natural at rebuttal and Anish revealed a hitherto untapped talent for comedy. Both boys are now looking forward to the annual school debate against the staff at the start of next term, on the motion "This House would prefer to be an old fogey".
