Triathlon Team have their first taste of Success

The Stamford Endowed Schools triathlon team had their first experience of competing during the schools Olympic Legacy week. A winter league of duathlon events have been planned by the coaches, Nicola Cliffe from Stamford school and Steve Nolan from New College Stamford, to help prepare the young athletes for the summer season of triathlon events organised throughout the country.

This first event was a two team relay comprising of a 400M swim and a 5K run, held in the schools new sports centre and grounds. The team event was close with only 4 seconds separating the winners, Chris Allison and Natasha Bartrum who live in Ketton and Stamford respectively, from the college students Heather Smith from Spalding and Sam Furey from Gretton.

Steve Nolan established a triathlon group at the college last year and said of the afternoon’s competition: “Every student who participated should be commended for their commitment and dedication over the past few months. They are all a credit to their coaches and their respective school and college; I was thoroughly impressed with the performance and attitude of every individual".

Triathlon is a sport that has interested more youngsters since the Brownlee brothers won gold & bronze in London Olympics and the college and school have been pro-active in getting this sport popular with the youngsters around the area. Stamford Triathlon club has been running for 3 years and is very supportive of the new ventures. In fact courses will be run in the New Year to promote the sport to all with training days for novice, intermediate & youth tri training days. Contact Tri coach 3 for further information at
