Promising start for First XV
Just one week after lifting the Saracens First XV trophy at St Albans, Stamford School First XV picked up their first win on the road defeating Stowe School. The visitors started brightly and following an early penalty from full back Callum Crellin, a superb move saw Angus Collett break 30m to send Archie Toseland springing under the posts. Despite being in control an interception try kept Stowe in the hunt. Some good support play from Henry Hives and Bo Vergalen allowed the pack to put pressure on the line before George Cox was able to pounce on a ball he had charged down for another 7 points. Further good work from the back row resulted in dominance in territory and this time Joshua Allen was the beneficiary as he scurried over taking the score to 24-5 at the half.
The second half saw end to end rugby where a searing break from Declan Spain was the highlight of the half leading to another score. Stowe threw everything at a resolute Stamford defence that only cracked with the last play of the game leaving the home side staring up at 31-10 on the scoreboard. A very promising start to the season!
